Installing Skype on Ubuntu is much simpler than it used to be. Microsoft has released a mostly web-based Skype client and packaged it for most major Linux distributions. 1. Open your web browser, and head over to Microsoft's Skype download page.

2. Use the Get Skype.. option to select Get Skype for Linux DEB.

3. When the window pops up asking you what you want to do with the file, select Open with and Software Install (default). Then, press Ok.
