Each episode of River Monsters follows Jeremy Wade as he tries to catch the biggest and badest specimens to understand the truth behind some horrific human attacks. Once captured, rather than killing the animals, he releases them back into the wild as a way to save the creatures from extinction. River Monsters has become one of the most watched programs on Animal Planet, and profiles predators like piranhas, goonch catfish, alligators, wels catfish, arapaima and freshwater shark species, among others. With this many seasons running, the huge fan base was devastated when the news came out that River Monsters would not be renewed for a tenth season and that the ninth installment would be the final one. The reason behind this decision is not based on dropping viewing figures or bad overall ratings, which still score a whopping 8.2 out of 10 stars on IMDb, 9.2 out of 10 on TV.com and 4 out of 5 on Hulu, but rather the fact that there might be no more River Monsters to be uncovered. In an interview, Jeremy Wade explained that at the start of this show he had a list and that he actually has ticked all of these species off and added some more during the process of the show. Unfortunately, he has literally run out of monsters to hunt down, which led to the conclusion to end the show after its final ninth season, which concluded on May 26th, 2017.
